Efficient & Robust Square Pressing Dies

Our Square Pressing Dies are engineered to deliver consistent compaction and dimensional stability. Crafted from premium materials and manufactured to tight tolerances, the HMF, HMD and HMT bodies cover square, rectangular, polygonal and special shapes.

Square and Rectangular Die Range

Model Shape Sample size Cavity depth Body size Weight
HMF Square 3-10 / 11-20 / 21-30 / 31-40 mm 20 / 30 / 40 / 45 mm 43x93 to 88x150 mm 0.65-4.8 kg
HMF Square 41-50 / 51-60 / 61-70 / 71-80 mm 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mm 98x150 to 158x180 mm 7.3-25 kg
HMF Rectangular 81-200 mm 60 mm 160x140 mm 40-80 kg
HMD Polygon 3-20 mm 40 mm 53x120 mm 1.4 kg
HMT Special shape 3-20 mm 40 mm 53x120 mm 1.4 kg

Material and hardness

All bodies are made from 9Cr18 high-carbon chromium bearing steel and hardened to HRC58. A hardened, ground cavity holds its geometry over repeated press cycles, which is what keeps a square or rectangular pellet the same size from batch to batch.

Choosing between HMF, HMD and HMT

  • HMF is the general-purpose square and rectangular family, available from 3 mm up to 200 mm with cavity depths from 20 mm to 70 mm.
  • HMD produces polygonal compacts in the 3-20 mm range.
  • HMT covers special shapes at the same 3-20 mm size and 40 mm cavity depth, for compacts that are not square, round or polygonal.

Practical notes

Square and rectangular cavities distribute force less evenly than a round die, so corners tend to be the first place a compact cracks. Filling the cavity evenly and applying pressure slowly both help. For the larger HMF bodies, check the press force against the cross-sectional area of the compact before committing to a size.

The heaviest rectangular body weighs 40-80 kg, so plan the transfer from storage to press before the die arrives.

Request a square or rectangular die quotation

Send the required shape, side length or diameter, cavity depth and the press available in your laboratory. Hench will confirm the matching body and quote it with any adapter you need. Contact us to request a quotation.

Typical applications

  • XRF and XRD sample preparation where a square or rectangular face is preferred
  • Ceramic and refractory powders compacted into green bodies
  • Metal and alloy powders for laboratory-scale compaction trials
  • Polygon and special-shaped compacts produced with the HMD and HMT bodies
  • Large rectangular discs produced on the 81-200 mm HMF body

Maintenance and storage

Clean the cavity and faces after each use, and store the die with the bore protected. Because square and rectangular cavities are more prone to corner wear than round ones, inspect the corners periodically and stop using a body once the face shows scoring that would mark the compact.
