High-Performance Circular Blown Dies
Our Circular blown dies are crafted with advanced technology to ensure excellent dimensional accuracy, smooth surface finishing, and high durability. Two HMK bodies cover the range: the HMK-Y circular valve pressing die and the HMK-F square-shaped split die.
HMK Die Range
| Model | Shape | Sample size | Cavity depth | Body size | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HMK-Y | Circular | 2-100 mm | 30 / 40 / 55 / 60 mm | 43-180 mm | 0.75-60 kg |
| HMK-F | Square, split | 3-100 mm | 30 / 40 / 50 / 55 / 60 mm | 53-220 mm | 1.2-60 kg |
Material and hardness
Both HMK bodies are cut from 9Cr18 high-carbon chromium bearing steel and hardened to HRC58. The hardened bore resists the abrasive wear that mineral, ceramic and metal powders cause, so the cavity keeps its nominal size over a long service life.
Circular or square: which to choose
The shape of the die should follow the shape required by the downstream measurement.
- HMK-Y circular dies produce round discs, the usual format for X-ray fluorescence and infrared transmission work.
- HMK-F square split dies produce a square sample and open for easier removal, which is useful for fragile compacts and for samples that must be examined from a specific face.
Split construction also lets the operator inspect the compact before release, an advantage when the powder is expensive or the batch is small.
Depth, diameter and press capacity
Cavity depth runs from 30 mm to 60 mm in both families. A deeper cavity holds more powder, which raises the force needed for a given compaction pressure; check that the press available in the laboratory can reach the pressure you need for the largest die you intend to use.
Because the HMK series spans a body weight of 0.75 kg to 60 kg, the handling bench and press table must be rated for the largest die in the set.
Request a blown die quotation
Tell us the required sample shape, diameter or side length, cavity depth and the press you will use. The Hench team will confirm the matching HMK body and quote it with any adapter required. Contact us to request a quotation.
Typical applications
- XRF sample discs, where a flat, uniform surface supports consistent measurement
- Infrared transmission samples prepared as transparent discs
- Ceramic, mineral and ore powders that require even compaction
- Metal and alloy powders prepared for laboratory examination
- Small-batch work where the sample is costly and waste must be avoided
Maintenance and storage
Keep the bore clean and lightly protected between uses. Mineral and ceramic powders are abrasive, so wipe the cavity after every session and check the face for scoring before pressing an expensive sample. Store the die assembled and supported so the bore is not damaged in the cabinet.
