Optomechanical Architecture & Interferometer Engineering

The LIDA-20 FTIR spectrometer is engineered on a high-stability optical bench (450 mm x350 mm x 235 mm, 14.2 kg) designed for easy installation, superior manufacturing quality, and convenient maintenance. It features a fully sealed, desiccated optical bench pod that completely shields sensitive internal optics from moisture.

  • 30° Incident High-Stability Interferometer: Features a Michelson interferometer configured at a precise 30° angle of incidence. This optomechanical layout is enhanced with permanent dynamic alignment to eliminate alignment drift during active mechanical scanning.

  • Real-Time Kinematic Verification Window: The outer chassis integrates a dedicated viewing window directly over the moving mirror assembly. This allows laboratory personnel to visually monitor the mechanical scanning operation status in real time.

  • Germanium-Coated KBr Substrate Beamsplitter: Optically optimized with a premium Germanium coating plated onto a high-purity Potassium Bromide KBr substrate to ensure maximum mid-infrared modulation efficacy.

  • Integral Moisture Protection Subsystem: To prevent crystal deliquescence, the internal architecture combines a fully sealed enclosure with a built-in, highly efficient renewable desiccant matrix. Users can rapidly extract, dry, and replace the desiccant cell block, significantly extending the service life of key optical components.

FTIR Principle

Instrument Operation Principle

The LIDA-20 FTIR operates on the definitive framework of interferometric spectral frequency modulation. Polychromatic infrared radiation emitted from the high-emissivity ceramic source is collimated and directed into the Michelson interferometer configuration. Within this matrix, the beam encounters the Germanium-coated KBr beamsplitter, splitting into two mutually perpendicular paths toward the fixed and mechanically scanning moving mirrors to induce a continuously varying optical path difference (OPD).

Upon recombination, the resulting modulated interferometric beam—now superposed with macroscopic interference fringes—is irradiated through the sample matrix, where selective molecular vibrational absorptions occur. This remaining throughput beam, constituting a sample-encoded interferogram, is captured by the high-sensitivity DLATGS pyroelectric detector. The localized workstation software executing the continuous Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm deconvolutes the digitized temporal interferogram, mathematically translating it into a highly resolved, localized wavenumber domain spectrum (800~350 cm-or7,800~350 cm-).
