The NDM-15 manual infrared laboratory IR press is specifically designed for solid powder sample preparation for Fourier infrared spectrometers. The product features an integrated structure, with a fast upper pressure speed and high stability. It is equipped with imported piston components and oil port seals to prevent hydraulic oil leakage. It is suitable for pressing powder samples for infrared spectrometers and can be used with 7mm and 13mm infrared pressing dies (for the 13mm infrared die, the pressure can reach 8 tons, and for the 7mm infrared die, the pressure can reach 1.5 tons). This product is applicable to all brands and models of Fourier transform infrared spectrometers.

This quick start guide is designed to assist you in completing the infrared powder sample preparation process. The precautions are as follows:

1. Before use, loosen the oil injection hole screw of the press machine (in front of the pointer gauge) to prevent air from entering and causing the machine to fail to press;

2. During use, the pressure should be set to 8 tons. If the pressure exceeds this limit, the die will break;

3. After each use, release the pressure in time. Do not keep the pressure for a long time;

4. Regularly add lubricating oil or vaseline to the screw rod to prevent the screw rod from getting blocked and affecting the use of the press machine;

5. This product uses 68-grade wear-resistant hydraulic oil. If there is a shortage of oil, replenish it in time.

6. If there is no pressure, follow the pressure obstruction solution guide on page 3 for operation or contact the manufacturer for guidance.

I. Operating Steps

The infrared hydraulic press is equipped with an infrared non-release mold for pressing samples. After the samples are formed, there is no need to remove the membrane. The sample formation effect is excellent and the transmittance is high. It can be directly placed in the sample chamber of the infrared spectrometer for testing. The inner diameter of the die is 13mm; the thickness of the die press plate is 0.5 to 1mm.

1. After drying the potassium bromide powder (place it in a drying oven or under a heating lamp, set at 110°C, and let it dry for 10 minutes), mix it evenly with the sample in a ratio of “1 (sample): 150 (potassium bromide)”. Put it into the infrared pressing die and place the upper pressing seat to the right to make the powder flat.

2. Place the die at the center of the workbench, unscrew the nut at the front of the pointer gauge, do not close this oil port, to avoid the air bubbles generated by the cylinder during use causing the upward pressure to be blocked.

3. Tighten the upper screw rod to the right (while doing so, ensure that the die is centered on the worktable of the press machine)

4. Tighten the front handle (this handle is the pressure valve)

5. Shake the lever and apply a pressure of 8 tons.

6. Keep the pressure for one minute and then remove the die.

7. Remove the upper and lower pressure seats. The diaphragm has been pressed.

8. Insert the plug plate into the infrared spectrometer for testing.

II. Guide for Overcoming Obstacles and Resolving Pressures

1.The screw 17 was not properly supportedat the bottom or the supporting object

was too soft and deformed under pressure so the pressure gauge showed no pressure.

  • The oil injection screw 13 was notloosened, which caused the hydraulicoil not to fow down and the cylindercouldn’t draw in oil, so the pressurecouldn’t be applied.
  • The oil discharge valve rod 8 is nottightly fixed. The hydraulic oil hasall returned to the oil tank, and thepressure cannot be maintained.Therefore,no pressure is generated.
  • The hydraulic oil level in the oiltank 14 is too low. This causesthe system to fail to draw in oil,resulting in the absence ofpressure in the tablet press.
  • If air gets into the oil passage, usea fine screwdriver to push openthe ball inside the one-way valveAdditionally One hand rotates thepressure handle 12 times, expellingthe air.The equipment then returnsto normal.
